EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DERMAPLANING

What’s dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face. This treatment removes deep scarring from acne and uneven dark spots on your skin. Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant.

You may consider dermaplaning if you have skin concerns such as:

  • acne scars

  • dull skin

  • dry skin

  • peach fuzz

  • sun-damaged skin

  • fine wrinkles

Benefits

Dermaplaning can help minimize the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles and dull skin. The procedure will reveal smoother, firmer and healthier skin, resulting in a beautiful radiant glow.

The Procedure

Skin is first assessed and cleansed making sure it is healthy enough for Dermaplaning procedure. We then take a new blade and attach it to a tool called a dermatome. It is used to move back and forth across your skin, gently removing the top layer of the skin. It doesn’t make cuts and is not painful, however, you might feel a scratching or stinging sensation.

The dermatome is moved back and forth to scrape off the top layer of dead skin + peach fuzz.

Afterward, a customized Hydrojelly Mask is applied to your skin to reduce redness, swelling or irritation.

The treatment can last anywhere from 30 min to an hour. The length of the procedure depends on the size of the area that needs treatment.

Risks and Side Effects

Dermaplaning is generally considered a safe cosmetic procedure. However, it may carry the following risks:

  • Slight redness in the hours after getting the treatment.

  • Infection

  • Scarring such as keloid or hypertrophic (raised) scars

  • Skin discoloration (skin that turns lighter or darker than the surrounding skin).

What to Expect

Don’t leave the house without sunscreen! After a dermaplaning treatment, you’ll need to be extra careful about sun exposure. Sun damage could reverse the effects of dermaplaning, or create pigment blotches on your freshly uncovered skin cells.

  • No downtime

  • As any redness subsides, you’ll be able to see the results more clearly in the days afterward.

  • Results of dermaplaning aren’t permanent.

  • Clears away up to three weeks worth of dead skin cells.

  • After three weeks to a month, your results will have faded.

Preparing For Dermaplaning

Before your dermaplaning treatment, your medical history, skin type, and skin coloring will be discussed, as well as the results you want.

If you have an active acne flare-up, you may need to reschedule your appointment to avoid irritating your skin further or tearing your skin’s surface.

You’ll also need to avoid direct sun exposure in the week prior to your appointment, as sun damage, such as a sunburn, could compromise your skin and make the treatment painful.
